Welcome to St Bede’s Early Years Foundation Stage

St Bede’s EYFS consists of two Reception classes and a 26 place Nursery.

The Reception children attend a full day, 8:55am – 3:00pm

Nursery comprises of two sessions, a morning session 8:45 – 11:45am and afternoon 12:30 – 3:30pm
The Reception classroom has two teaching bases, where the children have their registration and whole class teaching.

The Early Years team are highly skilled and knowledgeable about how our children learn, child development and care, and have a passionate commitment to the Early Years. We aim to promote relationships and value parents and carers as the child’s first educator.

We have a two year overview of topics which is designed to provide a broad, balanced curriculum in order to cover all areas of learning and development. We also try to follow the children’s interests when planning for each group of children and involve the children in choosing activities and resources. We value all areas of learning and development and understand that they are inter-connected.

Practitioners consider the individual needs, interests and stage of development of each child and use this information to plan a challenging and enjoyable experiences in all of the areas of learning and development.

Each area of learning and development is implemented through planned, purposeful play and through mix of adult-led and child-initiated activity. A sensitive and personalised approach is considered as the children grow older, and as their development allows, the balance will gradually shift towards more activities led by adults.

Welcome to the start of a new school year in St Bede’s Early Years.

We would like to welcome our new Nursery children who are settling well into their new routines with Mrs Millward and Mrs Hindle.

We are all very proud of all of the Reception Children who have joined St Bede’s and have made a fantastic start to their school lives.

Miss Roberts’ Reception class are ‘The Tigers’, supported by Miss Barker.

Mrs Mulholland and Mrs Bryant’s Class are ‘The Meerkats’, supported by Mrs Kilcran.

The school year begins with a getting to know you topic; ‘Ourselves’, a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn about each other as they begin this new stage in their school life.

We will explore a variety of occupations throughout the topic, beginning with Medical Staff.

As well as our exciting and challenging Early Years provision we have introduced a Medical Centre role play area.

Welcome to Reception class.

Lets see what we will be getting up to!

We are looking at a range of genre using big books. We will be discussing settings, characters and structure. Children will have the opportunity to remember and retell different parts of the story.

In phonics we will be introducing our letter sounds on a daily basis and would love it if you support this at home.

Our main focus in maths will be:
• Counting and using numbers to 10
• Number rhymes
• Naming and describing 2D and 3D shapes
• Using vocabulary for measuring eg. Length, height and weight
• Ordering days of the week

Our topic to start RE off this year is ‘Myself’, where we are looking at our Christian and family names.
